What educators are saying

I used this resource for my 7th grade advanced class. Worked really well for the Florida ELA Benchmarks of figurative language and poetic forms -- which isn't always the case for purchased resources from out of state! But this was great for the benchmark and to actively challenge them. Well done!
My honors 9th graders were sufficiently challenged by this resource, while at the same time the questions build up in complexity to get their brains warmed up for poetry analysis. Thanks so much!

Description

Help your students begin to make sense of Shakespeare's language and poetry with this engaging 7-page packet analyzing Sonnet 18, "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?.

Each section of the poem is broken down into chunks, where students analyze vocabulary, figurative language, and structure. Students could complete the entire packet themselves, or you could break the class up into groups and have each group complete a section and then report to the class.

This is a great activity to use before reading one of Shakespeare's plays to get students experienced with analyzing verse. The packet could also be used as an emergency lesson plan for a substitute teacher. An answer key is included.

This item is INCLUDED in my sonnets bundle:
Shakespeare's Sonnets Introductory PowerPoint, Worksheets, Project
