~Teacher Key for Notetaker

~Sorting Activity (words, sorting mat, and directions)- Students cut the words apart. (They are arranged from weakest to strongest by definition before being cut.) Next, find 7 groups of 3 words with similar meanings. Ex: nibble, eat, gobble = 1 group
Finally, sort each group of 3 by degree (strongest to weakest) on the sorting mat.

~Classifying Map- for classifying shades of meaning words. To use: Record words of different shades on the Classifying Map. Use words from the sort or challenge students to come up with their own.
Students will write 3 words within the same shade of meaning from the Classifying Map to illustrate in the Sequence Map. For example- If my words are warm, hot, and scorching, for warm I may draw a blanket, for hot I may draw a sunny day at the pool, and for scorching I may draw a campfire.
