What educators are saying

This was so much fun for my students. I used it as a game and they worked together in teams. Great resource. Thank you!
This was such a fun activity. My students resonated with this to the point where students would reference their paint chips and use alternative words to amplify their writing.

Description

Do your students struggle with word choice? Is their writing dull and boring? This shades of meaning mini-unit was designed to help your little learners boost their vocabularies and enhance their writing! It was inspired by the use of paint chip samples in mind!

Common Core Standards:

* L.2.5.b. Distinguish shades of meaning among closely related verbs and closely related adjectives.

* L.3.5.c. Distinguish shades of meaning among related words that describe states of mind or degrees of certainty.

What's Included?

~ Paint Your Writing Bulletin Board Idea

~ Brainstorming Colorful Words Activity

~ Colorful Words Scavenger Hunt

~ Word Ladders

~ Painting Sentences Practice

~ Painting Paragraphs Practice

Other Materials Needed:

You will need to get some paint chip samples from your local hardware store to do many of the activities provided here! They are free at most Lowe's and Home Depot stores. You may also choose to use the printable ones I have included, but I recommend using the real thing.
