What educators are saying

My class was working on researching severe weather. I needed some information on a level that a small group of students could comprehend, and this was perfect for their reading ability.
I used this as a resource for a substitute when I was absent. They said the kids were engaged and enjoyed the activities.

Description

This resource is an introduction to natural disasters. It contains five informational reading passages about natural disasters. It was made for the NGSS 3-ESS3-1 and 4-ESS3-2 Earth and Human Activity Standards. It covers the following

natural disasters:

Earthquakes

Floods

Hurricanes

Tornadoes

Volcanoes

The passages were written with third graders in mind, but the information is very interesting and complex and would be useful for upper grades as well.

There is a tips sheet for teachers and two recording sheetsfor students. One recording sheet is a graphic organizer for students to fill in as they read. The other one asks them to draw and label the natural disaster they have studied.

These are great to use with the whole class, in small groups, with partners, and even at centers!

There is a bonus mini-poster on natural disasters as well.
