What educators are saying
This was a fantastic way for my online students to practice building and analyzing electrical circuits when they themselves didn't have the equipment to explore circuits in hands-on ways.
Very well done and I plan to use this again!
My 11th and 12th grade at level physics students did these labs. They were a good way to allow them to visualize simple harmonic motion, but no lab setup.
Description
Series and parallel circuits the easy way, and bundled to boot!
We want our students to build circuits to understand Ohm's law, potential difference, current, and resistance, but most of the lab time is spent fighting with the equipment. Loose wires, worn out batteries, dead light bulbs and miss-wired ammeters mean that students don't really get the point of what they are doing. Phet simulations allow students to build series, parallel, and complex circuits and focus on the concepts and the mathematical relationships.
This is a bundled set of labs with teacher instructions and a class quiz for each. Student can do the lab in your computer lab alone or in cooperative partners, you can drive the labs from your computer on the LCD projector, or you can have the class drive the lab using the Smart Board.
Both labs are written for high school physics but would also be appropriate for GTE as low as the 7th grade if you teach the formulas prior to the lab.
Keywords: electricity, electrostatics, circuits, series, parallel, combination, Kirchoff, current, resistance, potential difference, voltage, volt, ampere, ohm, ohm's law, ammeter, voltmeter, STEM, GTE, AP Physics
