Serial Bundle - Intro, Episodes 1-5 Activities, Research Paper, Podcast Project

Using the Serial podcast in the classroom is a great way to engage even the most ELA reluctant students, but let's face it, teaching all 12 episodes begins to get stale pretty quickly; I learned this through experience. Therefore, I went back to the drawing board and created a unit in which we only cover the first 5 episodes while still hitting the same standards and skills. This approach puts more of a focus on the research paper and podcast project summative assessments and doesn't require as much time and commitment as a 12 episode unit.

Considering the students have access to the podcast via their smartphones and internet, they are also more than welcome to finish listening to the podcast independently (and it's awesome to continue the conversation with them on a one-to-one basis).
