What educators are saying

I was able to use this with my 2nd grade student whose goal is to be able to create and use a timeline to answer questions.
I had a group of learners who was struggling with sequence. I pulled these activities to work on in a small group and independently. I saw growth from every single student!

Description

This resource contains THREE nonfiction passages that will give your students an opportunity to practice the skill of sequencing. After reading each passage, students answer questions related to the sequence of events within the given passage. All of the multiple-choice questions that follow the passages focus on sequencing. If you want to prepare your students for standardized tests by introducing them to the various types sequencing questions they might encounter after reading a passage, this packet of worksheets is perfect for you!

These passages feature simple biographies of three influential Black Americans:

  • Jackie Robinson
  • Sojourner Truth
  • Booker T. Washington

PRINTABLE VERSION: After they read each passage, students answer multiple-choice questions that require them to sequence the events. When they finish the worksheets, there is an additional option to assemble timelines and a craftivity. The finished products make a unique bulletin board or fun school hallway display! You can do this at any time of the year, but many choose to do it in honor of Black History Month.

Student-friendly directions are included so that you can place the directions under your document camera, and students can refer to them as they complete the project. (An answer key is also included.)

TPT DIGITAL EASEL VERSION: This is a paperless version that can be completed on a device. It consists of 16 slides. The first slide contains the directions. Slides 2 through 7 contain the nonfiction passage about Jackie Robinson followed by five comprehension questions and the timeline. Slides 8 through 12 contain the passage, questions, and timeline about Sojourner Truth. The final four slides contain the passage, questions, and timeline about Booker T. Washington. Students read the passage and the comprehension questions that follow. They select the answer to each question by moving the circle to A, B, C, or D. They complete the timeline by typing in the blank answer boxes.
