Description

I was conferencing with a student about "I Survived the Attacks on 9/11" As the student was summarizing the book, he said, "Ms. W, it was really crazy. The planes crashed into the World Trade Center and a ton of people died. It was really scary. I am so glad it was just a book."

It was after this reading confernece, I know I had to teach about September 11th. It wasn't in my pacing guide or my curriculum notebook, but it had to be done. I wrote this informational article to share and explore with my students. We worked to identify the main ideas and support details of the article.

We also spent time watching a short video about the events of 9/11 and took a Google Tour of the 9/11 Memorials. Click here to read how I used these resources in my 5th grade classroom.

I hope you and your students find this free download helpful in discussing and reflecting on September 11th.
