**23 slides total describing the events and why they occurred and talks about the brave people who risked their lives to save others. It also explains why we celebrate Patriot Day. It also has a few discussion questions at the end.
KWL Chart
You can discuss with your class before the PPT what they already know and what they might want to learn about Patriot Day. Then after the PPT have them write about what they learned.
A Day to Remember Writing Page
Primary and regular lined paper. Have students rephrase what they learned from the PPT to write about why September 11th is known as the day to remember.
"A Hero Is" Writing Craftivity
Brainstorming Page/Writing Page. Have your students brainstorm 5 things they think a hero is. (brave, strong, courageous, kind, etc.). Then on the writing page turn their ideas into sentences.
Hero Hats- Have students pick a police, fireman, or Army hat to color and place at the top of their writing page on a piece of colored construction paper. I've included two sizes of the hats for you to choose from. (You can easily cut bands and make these headbands for your students as well!)
Thank You Cards & Letters
Have your students write a thank you card to current policemen, firemen, or military and help them understand how they help them in their community today.
Sept. 11th Readers/Coloring Books
1-2nd level and 3-5 level (has blank lines for students to fill in). 1-2nd could be colored and read at a center or as a whole class.
