Description

September 11th was a tragic day in the history of our country. While it is a sensitive topic, it is one that can still be covered delicately. I choose to educate my students about 9/11 by focusing on the story of Welles Crowther, a former Boston College Lacrosse player and Junior Firefighter turned Equities Trader in NYC. Welles was dubbed "The Man in the Red Bandana" because he used his red bandana to cover his face as he helped many victims of 9/11.

I have provided a lesson plan, documentary questions AND key, collage activity, symbolism activity, and a reflective writing piece.

Too often, people remember the politics and the conflict surrounding 9/11. My hope is that this lesson will teach students to see the HUMAN aspect of this day. I want them to learn what it means to have empathy and love for others, so that another catastrophic event like this never happens again.
