Description

Sentence Structure Activity
Emergent writers tend to write very short sentences and resulting in very choppy writing. This activity provides students with the connecting words and short sentences that they have to expand using the connecting word that makes the sense. Students are provided with the tools they need to expand the sentence provided.
I have administered this activity in portions; have students work on the first sentence and then share. Students inspire other students and sharing helps clarify for others that may be unsure.
Then have students read through their most recent piece of writing to stretch some of their sentences!
Goal of this activity is:
- to make students aware that connecting words can stretch their sentences by adding two thoughts together.
