Description

This is an engaging middle or high school sentence fluency concepts one-day lesson.

Do your students need practice with making their writing less verbose, less wordy, more concise, with fewer instances of repetition, and involving correct parallelism, but with a dangling modifer reminder, who needs to teach their students not to use run-ons and gobbledygook but choppiness. is bad. don't you know?

.... See what I did there? :)

Sentence fluency is an area in which I feel my students can never get enough practice...and rightfully so! They need repetition with so many different concepts in order to understand what is expected of them.

This product contains a PDF PPT covering 11 "deadly sins" of sentence fluency. The tips are straightforward, and the examples are engaging. Students need to have been introduced to the idea of phrases and clauses in order to benefit fully from this lesson.

In this product, you will also have access to student-friendly guided notes and a practice activity. The sentence fluency activity can be used as class discussion, a group or partner assignment, an in-class reinforcement, or a homework assignment.

I used these files over the course of two days, but you could easily expand upon them with a class discussion. My students certainly had lots of questions and their own sentence fluency examples to share! After using this lesson with my freshmen, they definitely had a better grasp on how to achieve sentence fluency in their own writing. The concepts, which can sometimes be confusing, are very clear, and the examples are straightforward and helpful.
