Description

Sentence scramble is a literacy center activity for students to take the words of a sentence and put them in order. This is a simple activity for kids to learn, and it can be both a challenging and fun literacy activity that focuses on a number of skills. By building sentences, students must practice reading comprehension, grammar, and proper language syntax. You can extend the activity, by having students partner up to read the sentences and practice fluency or putting the sentences together to make a paragraph.

Using in the Classroom

This activity can be done independently, in partners, or in groups. The sentences are split up into 6 sets with 5 sentences in each set. This is a total of 30 sentences. Each set is based on one theme. The sentences can be part of literacy centers, morning work, a “do now” activity, or extra work for early finishers.

A student response sheet is also included so that students can write the sentences out and share their responses. All of the sentence cards are organized by number so that teachers can easily organize them in envelopes or bins.

Who Can Use?

Sentence scramble is a fun hands-on activity for a number of ages and grade levels. This set would be ideal for 1st grade to 3rd grade, but can be useful for students needing intervention or special education services at later ages, too. Unscrambling words into logical sentences is especially helpful for students with language based and reading disabilities. Because of this, regular education teachers, special education teachers, interventions teachers, and tutors would benefit from having these in their classroom.

This sentence scramble includes an assortment of 30 sentences on the following topics: Soccer, Greek Olympics, Lunch Time, Dogs and Cats, Going to the Store, and Rainforests.
