Why Teach Self-Control Skills?
Self-control is a critical executive functioning skill that helps students manage their thoughts, behaviors, bodies, words, and emotions. Kids who struggle with self-control might have difficulty following directions, rush through assignments, interrupt others, have trouble staying seated, become easily frustrated, have difficulty regulating their emotions, and more. Simply put, self-regulation skills are necessary life skills.
Resources Include:
- Self-Control Activity Book: Use this self-control activity book and lessons to teach self-control and self-regulation skills. This set uses a 4-step approach that teaches how to Stop, Think, Act, and Reflect (STAR). Students will learn what self-control means, how to calm down in the moment, understand the situation, list choices, consider consequences, and make the best choice.
- Self-Regulation Station: Use these lessons to teach and practice self-control and self-regulation skills! The resource includes 7 core lessons with a fun train theme with a total of 47 unique activities. Each lesson takes kids through "train stops" of learning self-regulation. Activities include a blend of worksheets, task cards, games, crafts, and more.
- Self-Control Task Cards: Teach and practice self-control with over 100 task cards that highlight social situations. The cards focus on self-control through scenarios with managing emotions, thinking before we speak, and managing our behaviors. Strong self-control is a critical social skill that helps kids and young adults make good social choices for now and in the future.
- Self-Control Speedway Game: Use this self-control board game to teach and practice skills for self-control and self-regulation. Kids and young adults will roll a dice and move through a game board as they answer questions related to self-control. The entire game has a fun race car and speedway theme!
- Self-Control Scenarios: Post self-control "stop, think, act" scenarios to discuss, learn, and grow together. Each slide/page includes a real-life situation that kids may encounter.
- Self-Control Posters: Display the powers of self-control all the time with a bulletin board and posters set! This set focuses on teaching how to be a self-control STAR with stopping, thinking, acting, and reflecting on our choices.
