Description

This worksheet gives a brief reading selection about the three types of earthquake waves: primary waves, secondary waves and surface waves. The student is then asked to cut out various pictures or words to show understanding of the reading selection and paste into the appropriate location. The categories that are covered are the seismic wave name, speed, states of matter the waves travel through and the motion they make.

This bundle contains seven worksheets and a 48 slide powerpoint presentation. The powerpoint covers Movement of the Earth's crust (compression, tension, shearing), faulting (normal, reverse, thrust, lateral, fault block mountains, rift valleys), folding (anticlines and synclines), plateaus and domes, earthquakes (tsunamis, seismic waves -p wave, s wave, l wave), richter scale), types of volcanoes (cinder cone, composite, shield), earthquake and volcano zones (Ring of Fire, Mediterranean, Mid-Atlantice Ridge), Plate tectonics (Pangaea, evidence from fossils and rocks), ocean floor spreading, plate boundaries and convection currents.

Worksheet topics include:

MOH'S HARDNESS SCALE - This worksheet has 10 questions that refer to Mohs Hardness Scale and the Field Hardness Scale. Some of the questions are straight forward while others will require some higher level thinking. It is great to use with the Rocks and Minerals Unit of study. It can be used in the classroom or as a homework assignment. This worksheet has been created in Microsoft Powerpoint.

OCEAN FLOOR SPREADING - This worksheet provides a reading selection as well as diagram of the process of ocean floor spreading. Following the reading selection are eight questions. Five of them are vocabulary words that the student is being asked to define using context clues. The last three are asking the student to use their inference skills to answer the questions based on the diagram.

PLATE BOUNDARIES - This worksheet gives a brief reading selection about the three main plate boundaries: divergent boundaries, convergent boundaries and transform boundaries. The student is then asked to cut out various pictures or words to show understanding of the reading selection and paste into the appropriate location. The categories that are covered are the type of plate boundary, a picture of the boundary showing direction of movement, the location where each boundary occurs and another name for each boundary. Included is also a map of the world showing all of the plate boundaries. Arrows indicate direction of movement. Seven plate boundaries are named and the student is asked to identify each boundary type.

SEISMIC WAVES - This worksheet gives a brief reading selection about the three types of earthquake waves: primary waves, secondary waves and surface waves. The student is then asked to cut out various pictures or words to show understanding of the reading selection and paste into the appropriate location. The categories that are covered are the seismic wave name, speed, states of matter the waves travel through and the motion they make.

STRESS IN THE EARTH'S CRUST - This worksheet gives a brief reading selection about the three main stresses in the earth's crust: compression, tension and shearing. The student is then asked to cut out various pictures or words to show understanding of the reading selection and paste into the appropriate location. The categories that are covered are the type of stress, a picture of each stress, direction of the movement, density changes and volume changes.

THE EARTH'S CRUST - This worksheet provides a reading selection as well as diagram of the layers of the Earth. Following the reading selection are thirteen questions. The first question requires the student to fill in a graphic organizer naming the three layers, their thicknesses and temperatures. The following 12 questions are related directly to the reading.

THE ROCK CYCLE - This worksheet has 10 questions that refer to the Rock Cycle. Some of the questions are straight forward while others will require some higher level thinking. It is great to use with the Rocks and Minerals Unit of study. It can be used in the classroom or as a homework assignment. This worksheet has been created in Microsoft Powerpoint.
