Second Grade Common Core Learning Standards Math Assessment

This assessment was created to track student progress in mastering the Common Core Learning State Standards in math. It allows teachers and data specialists to identify strengths and weaknesses in their class.

Within this assessment you will find questions reflecting each expectation in the 2nd grade CCLS. Every math standard is included. The actual standard is stated before the set of accompanying questions with an “I can” statement. Standards are included in order so analyzing data is more straightforward.

The Second Grade Common Core Standards Math Assessment is separated by domain. Teachers can administer one section after completing a study of each domain or as a final exam at the end of the year. In my own school, we administer the test three times: the third week of school (to assess prior knowledge and plan for instruction based on student needs), in the middle of the year (to track progress), and at the end of the year. We give the test on four separate days (separated by domain).

The Second Grade Common Core Standards Math Assessment has multiple word problems and encourages students to explain their thinking. This addresses the common core push for rigor and problem solving skills.
