What educators are saying

Thank you for this great lesson with fantastic resources! Very well laid out for me to follow. Students enjoyed this and learned so much.
I used this with my mixed level high school art class. Some struggled with the concept of scratching to make the white areas and leaving areas alone to make it dark since this is the opposite of drawing. Most found success though. Great resource. Thanks!

Description

This art lesson is bound to IMPRESS all and keep students ENGAGED with very little prep from you! Students will be engaged in creating a scratchboard drawing of an animal. In this middle school or high school art lesson students will create implied texture using a variety of marks with the scratch tools. In addition, students will be informally assessed to check for understanding of their knowledge on the following categories of art: portrait, still life and landscape. The PowerPoint slides and/or PDF slides includes: lesson objectives, standards (use 2- or 3-dimensional art materials to understand the potential and limitations of each & create art work requiring sequentially ordered steps and required media to achieve intended results), art vocabulary (portrait, composition, texture, tactile texture and implied texture), a biography of Johns James Audubon and an art critique of his artwork, a informal assessment to check understanding on the difference between portrait, still life and landscape, step by step instructions, partner critique, student examples and a YouTube video art tutorial.

ALSO Includes: 100+ ready to print images to transfer to 6"x9" scratchboard and printable rubric for student use.
