What educators are saying

Loved having some extra practice problems for my students! The format was really user-friendly and easy to implement in a hurry! Great for a unit review station as well.
My students struggle to learn scientific notation, even though they've been taught in earlier years. This unit was well-organized and straight forward. It helped us tremendously!

  • A 17-Slide PowerPoint Presentation (Includes traditional PowerPoint, PDF, and Google slides)
  • Editable and printable 5-page set of lecture notes for the teacher
  • Editable and printable 5-page guided notes outline for the student
  • Editable and printable 2-page practice problem worksheet for homework or quiz
  • Paperless Digital Versions for use in Google Drive, Google Classroom, and /or Microsoft OneDrive

Suitable for grades 7 - 12.

I wrote these materials to use as a review for my physical science and chemistry students. It seems that they can never remember how to use scientific notation, and it is a MUST HAVE skill for physical science and chemistry students. These materials could also be used by math teachers when they are teaching this concept.

The powerpoint is a short presentation consisting of 17 slides. It covers the following:

  • Why scientific notation is important
  • How to write numbers in scientific notation
  • How to write numbers in expanded form when they are in scientific notation
  • Practice problems going in both "directions"
  • How to multiply, divide, add and subtract using numbers written in scientific notation.
  • Loads and loads of practice problems.

The notes that are included should be used along with the powerpoint presentation. There is a set of notes just for the teacher, and another set of notes for the student. The student set has blanks for the student to fill in as the powerpoint is being presented by the teacher.

Finally, I have included a worksheet that can be used as immediate classroom practice, as a homework assignment or as a quiz on scientific notation. It consists of 20 problems that cover everything discussed in the powerpoint.
