SAVING SAM (GUMMY WORM) is a VERY POPULAR lab introducing the scientific method commonly found anywhere between 4th and 8th grade. Check out the preview! This lab is also used in pedagogy classes for science education in undergraduate and graduate school. This is a modified lab geared towards lower ability levels and/or students that do not have well developed fine motor skills.

Using a gummy worm, gummy saver, plastic cup, and paper clips students are introduced to a fun, interactive, and collaborative inquiry based lesson. Content introduced includes but is not limited to the following: problem/question,background Information, hypothesis development, materials, procedure, data collection, peer collaboration, results, and conclusion.

This is perfect for the first week of school and can be adjusted very easily for individual learners or entire grade levels. This is also an effective teaching tool one on one, in small groups, and as a class when using a Smart Board/Promethean Board/Projection.
