What educators are saying

This was a great resource to use for students who could not participate in PE. They loved having something to do.

Description

You'll be ready for anything with this self-directed Science and Health learning resource bundle, offering all the help you will need for creating sub plans and a sub binder AND with independent assignments for your Health and Science students!

Are you tired of the last-minute scramble to find meaningful and appealing work or engaging resources for your class? Do you need a quiet day where your students work harder than you do? Are you going to be absent and don't have the time to plan for a sub? Then eliminate the stress now with this creative and easy-to-use "printable/no prep" collection! This Middle School-level resource collection will work for your substitute teacher, as the core of your emergency sub folder, or as a break from the regular day-to-day lessons in your class!

Please read the reviews to see what teachers think of this product and how they have used it.

This resource contains SIXTEEN unique "print and go/no prep" Science/Health reading and writing assessments that any teacher can use in class or send to be completed independently. These readings and assessments develop your students’ understanding of some key but lesser-known human body processes, demand close reading and re-reading of the text, and have a variety of questions aligned to Common Core ELA Standards. As an alternative form of assessment and/or for your early finishers, there are also crossword puzzles for each of the sixteen resources (with answer keys) provided with this resource!

Each individual resource in this set involves reading a lengthier science/health-based article (700-1400 words) on an aspect of the human body or health. The titles are:

“Why You Eat, Drink, and Breathe”

“What in the World is the Spleen?”

“A Cut in the Skin"

“What Your Nose Knows”

"Skin: The Perfect Wrapper"

"Acupuncture: The Prick of a Needle"

"The Flu: Influenza Facts"

"Your Amazing Bones"

"Hair, Hair Everywhere"

"Dreams: Keeping Them Alive"

"Hiccups: Getting Them and Stopping Them"

"The Miracle of Anesthesia"
"The Common Cold"
"The Birth and History of Eyeglasses"

"What is Asthma?"

"The History of Dentistry"

These passages were written at a middle school reading level. Following the readings are comprehension and short answer questions aligning with these key Common Core Informational Text Standards: RI.3.8, RI.4.1, RI.4.5, RI.5.1, RI.5.2, RI.5.3, RI.5.4, RI.5.8, RI.6.1, RI.6.3, RI.6.4, RI.6.5, RI.6.6 RI.6.7, RI.7.1, RI.7.4, RI.7.6, and RI.8.5

Please see the Preview for examples from this product.

These SIXTEEN resources were created to take between 50-60 minutes each depending on teacher interest in being involved in the reading and as mentioned, they require close and attentive reading from the students!

Rest easy, these are interesting and motivating printables that are just what middle school kids need to keep engaged and working in your absence. NOTE: None of these printables is offered individually or as part of another collection in my store, they are unique to this bundle!

**This is not just "busy work." Students will be completing meaningful and engaging Science and Health work and acquiring new language arts and science skills while completing these assignments. Your students will be talking about what they learned in your absence when you get back to school!**
