What educators are saying

This is a great resource to use when teaching science vocabulary! I placed them on a bulletin board where my students could see them and referred to them as needed. Thank you!
Great graphics and love the font choices. Awesome resource to help remind/teach student scientific & mathematical prefixes and suffixes.

Description

Do your students struggle with new science vocabulary?  When it comes to learning new science concepts, vocabulary is everything, and it has to be taught with intention. Your science word wall can be enhanced with these basic science prefix and suffix word wall cards that will help them decode multisyllable science vocabulary successfully on their own.

The prefixes and suffixes included in this set of word wall cards is by no means exhaustive. Included are prefixes and suffixes that are commonly found in the upper elementary science curriculum accompanied by icon images that are intended to:

  • provide meaning associations to related words or things that the students are already familiar with;
  • help reinforce student understanding of new and unfamiliar word part meanings, and;
  • provide reinforcement for English language learners.

How can you use these cards? Just like any other word wall cards! Here are a few ideas:

  • Display on your science word wall, so students have constant access to them.
  • Incorporate into science word work activities or prefix and suffix word study units.
  • Use these cards throughout the year as students create a science vocabulary dictionary.
  • Create lists of related science vocabulary that use the same prefixes and suffixes.
  • Use these cards for science vocabulary journaling activities.
  • Be creative… make these cards work for you and your students!

Here’s  you’ll get:

  • 83 prefix word wall cards
  • 18 suffix word wall cards
  • NEWLY UPDATED SET WITH PRINT/MANUSCRIPT DEFINITIONS!!

You will love seeing your students work independently using these word wall cards to decode multisyllable science vocabulary, and you will really love when they are able to transfer and apply their knowledge to other subjects!

The icon images depict ideas and images that students are familiar with that may not necessarily be science related, thus helping them understand science vocabulary and concepts through a wider lens

TEACHERS JUST LIKE YOU SAID…

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The graphics on these cards are beautiful!  I will have them on display and use them frequently as we decode new science terms!  I have been searching for something like this for a while. -VV

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a great addition to my classroom. Affixes are very important to learn and helpful when trying to understand the word's meaning. -KS

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I just love these colorful prompts!  The students really use them in class. -AG

For long-term use and durability, I suggest copying these on cardstock and then laminating. You could also print two pages per sheet of cardstock in landscape orientation.
