Science Starters

These science starters are a great way to start science class for middle or high school. You can also call them warm-ups or bell ringers. They require little to no teacher preparation. Students have clear instructions for each day of the week. The instructions are created to be able to repeated each week, so you can use this easily for a quarter, semester or all year. They are also easily adaptable to fit your classroom needs.
These science starters address social emotional skills, science content and vocabulary skills skills, and different learning styles.
Most of the daily assignments are self explanatory and require no outside materials.The Wednesday science starter uses recent vocabulary words. I have students keep words and definitions in their notebook and have them refer back to those to do this section.The Thursday science starter will require access to either science books, magazines or the internet. I use Science World magazines or allow students to use their phone.
The first page of the project contains directions for students. The second page is an optional student answer page. Most of my students put their answers/responses on their own paper. A few students use the answer sheet page. This can be used as an accommodation.
