•Science Fusion; Unit 4; Lesson 1

Helps Students:
•Improve their science skills.
•Identify the critical content of DEFINING the properties of matter.

Helps Teachers:
•Prepare for teacher observations
•Create science centers
•Assign meaningful homework
•Identify who to call on and monitor for understanding of the learning goal, discovering their true grasp of the material and growth towards the learning target
•Analyze which students the lesson was effective for and which need reteach-ing and additional exposure in order to master this skill. Use this data to drive your lesson for the next day.

•20 minutes for your science centers

Recommended Grade Range: K-5; K-1 Enrichment; 2 On Level; 3-5 Re-teaching

Assessment: Exit Slip score (racing laps completed)

Objective/Learning Target: The student will DEFINE the properties of matter.

Learning Scale ~ Students are able to:
•Level 1 ~ Define physical properties including size, shape, color, temperature, weight, texture, sinking, floating, attraction and repulsion (2.P.8.1)
•Level 2 ~ Identify physical properties of objects (2.P.8.1)
•Level 3 ~ Observe and measure objects in terms of their properties, including size, shape, color, temperature, weight, texture, sinking or floating in water, and attraction and repulsion of magnets (2.P.8.1
•Level 4 ~ Prove how observed physical properties help to determine the state of matter of an object (2.P.8.1)
