    Description

SAVE 30%! This set includes 4 ENGAGING and RIGOROUS activities to teach the scale properties of objects in the solar system!

    This bundle includes:

    1. Scale Properties of Objects in the Solar System Informational Text*
    2. Scale Properties of Objects in the Solar System Online Activity*
    3. Draw the Solar System to Scale Poster Project
    4. Scale Properties of Objects in the Solar System Data Analysis Stations*

*Includes both print and digital Google Slides options to assign.

    Lesson Descriptions:

Informational Text: Students read about all the ways that celestial bodies can be compared, such as distance from the Sun, diameter, atmosphere depth, axis tilt, etc. After reading the article, students answer text-dependent questions on a corresponding worksheet.

Online Activity: Students will access a website that shows just how far apart the planets in our solar system are. Students will follow directions to scroll through the solar system to answer questions.

Poster Project: Students follow simple step-by-step directions to create a (really long!) poster of our solar system. All size and distance calculations are provided.

Data Analysis Stations: Students will rotate through 18 stations. Each has a card with information, data, and one question. Students will use the provided information to answer the question in the claims and evidence format.

    Teacher Notes:

    • These resources are not editable.
    • All answer keys are included.
    • Standard Covered: NGSS MS-ESS1-3

    NGSSMS-ESS1-3
Analyze and interpret data to determine scale properties of objects in the solar system. Emphasis is on the analysis of data from Earth-based instruments, space-based telescopes, and spacecraft to determine similarities and differences among solar system objects. Examples of scale properties include the sizes of an object’s layers (such as crust and atmosphere), surface features (such as volcanoes), and orbital radius. Examples of data include statistical information, drawings and photographs, and models. Assessment does not include recalling facts about properties of the planets and other solar system bodies.
