What educators are saying

This was such a FUN activity for my students. We did this after testing and it took several days to complete. I love seeing how creative my students can be especially when they are showing what they have learned!!
This was such a fun activity to do for our Transformations unit review! With our state testing coming, I needed to find something fun to review this for their Math test. Highly recommend!

Description

Engaging project to complete a scale drawing by dilating a candy wrapper - perfect for middle school or high school math. Students will calculate scale factor and visualize the similarities between an original shape and its dilation.

Candy Wrapper Project includes:

♦ Student Directions

♦ Student Recording Sheet

→ Measurements

→ Reflection Questions

♦ Scoring Rubric

♦ Google Slides Tutorial with Video Clips

Project allows students to enlarge a candy wrapper using scale drawings.

♦ Students will be required to...

→ Measure the original candy wrapper & calculate area & perimeter.

→ Enlarge the candy wrapper by a scale factor of their choice (or teacher choice).

→ Measure the enlargement & calculate area & perimeter.

→ Reflect on the enlargement in comparison to the original wrapper.

Scoring rubric is provided for easy scoring.

How To Tutorial is provided through Google Slides to project for students to have step by step instructions along with video clips.

Solve problems involving scale drawings of geometric figures, including computing actual lengths and areas from a scale drawing and reproducing a scale drawing at a different scale.
Describe the effect of dilations, translations, rotations, and reflections on two-dimensional figures using coordinates.
Verify experimentally the properties of dilations given by a center and a scale factor:
The dilation of a line segment is longer or shorter in the ratio given by the scale factor.
