What educators are saying

I used this resource along with several others as the beginning lab for all three of my grade levels. It was fun and the students learned a lot while learning lab practice skills in an entertaining way.
Inexpensive and fun lab. Students enjoyed working together to solve the problem. Posted photos on the school's Facebook page and got the most likes of any post in the last several months :)

Description

"Saving Sam" is a fun, simple lab that will get your students to start "thinking like scientists". Students are given a job: save Sam the worm. To find a solution, students will have to work together and communicate. This activity requires less than 5 minutes of teacher set-up and minimal materials (a cup, a round gummy candy, and a gummy worm for each pair of students).

This packet includes a teacher guide, including pictures of the activity, and leveled directions and worksheets. It includes two pages of directions and three sets of worksheets, each a little more difficult than the last. This allows you to cater these activities to your specific groups of students and provide differentiation for those that need it.

This is a great activity for the first week of school. Your students will be actively working to solve a problem and applying a scientific method without realizing- much better than sitting through a lecture!
