What educators are saying

Love this! I used it to introduce the scientific method and it was also a great way to see leadership skills and teamwork.

Description

Save Fred is a great team building activity for the beginning of the year (or anytime)! The students must work together to save Fred (a gummy worm) from his capsized boat (a cup) using only paperclips.

This product includes a teacher lesson plan and variations of worksheets and foldables to include in a science journal. Students can draw and describe how they saved Fred and record as they do the experiment. Students also identify a problem they encountered and explain how the group solved it.

Fred, the gummy worm, has been spending his time boating on the Indian River Lagoon. His boat capsizes during a storm and Fred is now stuck. Can you save Fred?

Materials Needed:

- gummy worm (Fred)
gummy life saver (the
life preserver)
1 plastic cup (the boat)
4 paper clips

Problem:

How can you and your partner save Fred using only 4 paper clips? You may not touch Fred, the boat, or the life preserver directly with your hands, only with the paper clips.

Includes a Scientific Method flap-book and Interactive Science Journal Activities.
