STEM throughout the year- The Bundle (preschool, kindergarten, and first grade)

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. (This acronym can also be spelled “STEAM” in which the “A” stands for art.)

This packet is full of fun, hands-on, innovative STEM activities that your preschool, kindergarten, and first grade students are sure to love.

Why STEM?
As educators we are tasked with preparing the next generation for jobs that may not even be created yet. Students need to be able to work collaboratively with their peers and be able to problem solve. STEM offers students the opportunity to work on these skills.

STEM provides students with open-ended activities where they can go through the process of defining a problem, brainstorming a possible solution, planning, creating, and improving on their plan. This process helps prepare our students for their futures in fun and innovative ways.

How Does This Packet Work?
This packet is the bundle of nine packets of a ten part series. (The last one is coming soon!!) Each unit is meant to span over the course of an entire month. Therefore, students can revisit the activities and improve upon their thoughts/plan.

What is included in the packs?

In these packets you will find lesson plans, posters, activities, recording pages, and extensions to use during your entire school year. These activities are perfect for fun Friday experiments, STEM labs, and science and art extensions.

STEM CHALLENGES (Please click on the link to see exactly what is included in each individual pack.)

*Color challenge (August)

Students will become familiar with the STEM structure and science materials creating different colors.
How many different shades can you make?

*Shape Challenge (September)

Students will start to think like engineers and artists in this challenge. They will create 2-D shapes in a Piet Mondrian challenge and a 3-D shape home using a variety of materials.

*Sticky Situation (October)

Embracing the month of October, students will attempt to create a variety of spider webs.

*Sink or Float? (November)

The Pilgrims traveled to America on the Mayflower. This month, students will attempt to create a variety of boats that float.

*Building a bridge (December)

Students will get the opportunity to look at famous bridges and construct workable models.

*Building a building (January)

Students will observe famous structures from around the world and create their own buildings.

*Force and Motion (February)

Students will learn about force and motion as they complete a series of scaffolded activities.

*Simple machines (March)

Students will apply the knowledge they gained in the last challenge to create simple machines.

*Coding (tech and non-tech options) (April)

Students will learn the basics of coding and create their own.
