What educators are saying

This was such a fun way to learn about the scientific method! Each experiment is well laid out with teacher notes and minimal materials needed. My students enjoyed all of the experiments that we tried and it was very easy prep on my end!
This is a great resource and so helpful! I plan to use it all year with my third grade class. Thanks for all your hard work!

Description

These STEM Labs are PERFECT for teaching the Scientific Method or just investigation scientific principles. Get students to LOVE science with these fun and highly engaging labs!

****Do NOT purchase this if you have purchased my Scientific Method Unit and Project product!!!! This is already included in that unit!!

Included you will find eight STEM science experiments that can be used whole group, small group, with partners, or individually. The labs were designed to take students through the Scientific Method. The materials given are in metric just for that reason. They are also the amount needed for ONE experiment, so you would need to provide enough materials for however many groups you choose to have.

Each lab has a teacher help sheet that gives the objective, materials, background info on the scientific principles involved, and helpful hints.

Going Under Water: Students will understand that air takes up space.

Chemical Caper: Students will understand that acids (vinegar) and bases (baking soda) can mix together to create a chemical reaction. Students also learn that gases take up space.

Ruler Whacker: Students will understand that air has weight and that the more force exerted on an object, the more it will move.

Lava Lamp: Students will understand that liquids have different densities (mass/weight) and that liquids with different densities do not mix.

Soda Static: Students will understand that static electricity can be created by rubbing a balloon through hair and this static can move light objects.

Coin Cleaning: Students will understand that acids and salt can work together to remove copper oxide.

Gummy Bear Soak: Students will understand gummy bears absorb other liquids and grow larger through osmosis.

Urban Legend: Students will understand that the carbonation in soda is released as carbon dioxide gas with the introduction of Pop Rocks.
