What educators are saying

This really makes students think when they are asked to design everyday things for animals, instead of people. It inspires creativity and engagement. Thank you for your time and effort.
I love the creative challenges in this resource that promote higher order thinking and problem solving.

Description

Looking for easy STEM activities to implement that aren't too easy for students? If you're struggling to get your STEM students to develop critical thinking and creativity skills or they always jump blindly into building activities without enough planning, this is the STEM activity you need!

In STEM Design Domino or Dice, students think critically & creatively to plan customized designs for a specific animal.

This activity gives students much-needed practice defining the criteria & constraints to solve problems and thinking through design decisions from multiple angles.

STEM Design Domino / Dice takes about 5-10 minutes for the simple version and comes with instructional options to layer in depth if you have more time available.

The STEM Design Domino / Dice Activity:

  • is low prep / no prep
  • focuses on critical thinking & creativity
  • helps students shift their minds into thinking like engineers to prepare them for your lessons
  • is simple to conduct, but comes with options to layer in depth to add richness and complexity
  • requires no materials beyond paper & pencil
    • You don't need pencil & paper if you have 1:1 technology. Even a domino or die isn't necessary; you can just choose a number between 1-6 to get started, but the dominoes / dice do make it more fun!
