STEAM Projects | Science Activities | Project-Based Learning for Second Grade

Current Projects:

1. Earth Day Project: Protecting Marine Mammals from Oil Spills
2. Life Cycle Project: Designing Zoo Habitats for Butterflies and Frogs
3. Sound Project: Sending a Secret Message using Sound
4. Erosion Project: Creating a Bridge that Stands Up to Erosion
5. Forces Project: Rebuilding after an Earthquake
6. BONUS FREEBIE: Animal Survival Project

All projects incorporate ELA and STEAM into a set of 4 to 5 extended activities. Each project will take approximately 1 week to complete (because each activity will take about 1 block), but you can always remove and add activities as desired!

FAQ:

Who would benefit from these projects?

• These projects are designed for 2nd graders but would fit well in a 3rd grade classroom as well! Some of these projects would even fit well in a 1st grade classroom.

What if I do not cover one of these topics in my science curriculum?

• Due to the ELA connections in reading and writing throughout each one of these projects, you do NOT have to teach these in a science classroom! Feel free to incorporate them into your ELA block as desired instead!
