SCIENCE STATIONS: GREENHOUSE EFFECT (Great for Observations!)

Learn all about the Greenhouse Effect with this in depth Station Activity. I have used these stations two ways: 1) As true stations where the students rotate. 2) Each station completed on a separate day. I use the coordinate graphing as an extra. Students bring it with them to every station and if they finish early they have something to do.

Station 1 - Informational Text - Read informational text about the Greenhouse Effect. Answer the questions that follow in complete sentences.

Station 2 – Lab – See firsthand how the greenhouse effect works through this hands-on lab. You will need a glass jar (such as a mason jar or pickle jar), two thermometers

Station 3 – Vocabulary Domino Cards – With your partner(s), connect each term with the corresponding definition until all cards have been used.

Station 4 – Math Connection: Charts and Diagrams – Create a pie chart based on the percentage of emissions being released into the atmosphere due to human activity. There are two options for this station: 1) Use the marks already placed on the pie chart in increments of 10%. You will have to estimate angle size. 2) Create accurate measurements by multiplying the percentage number by 3.6 to get the appropriate angle. Use a protractor to create this pie chart.

Station 5 – Technology Connection – NASA Greenhouse Effect game. The goal is to clear out enough of the greenhouse gases to let some of the heat to escape back into space. There are five levels, each one getting progressively more difficult. Start with level 1.

Station 6 – Technology Connection – Coordinate Graphing activity. Can be used as a separate station or as something to bring to each station in case the student finishes early.
