This ELA Performance Task, based on SBAC and MSTEP Writing performance tasks, is a great way to practice CCSS with your students!!! These tasks focus on reading, writing, comprehension, and more, but with a roller coaster theme in which they are asked to write a opinion essay about roller coasters. This is a fun way to get students thinking critically about sources and using the skills they have learned.

    This product includes:

    • Beginning Classroom Activity
    • Step by step process for analyzing sources, gradual release to students
    • Graphic Organizer for taking notes
    • Research Questions
    • Writing prompt for full-length opinion essay
    • Materials for presenting the task to your class
    • Materials for students to complete the task as a small group, center, or individually as an assessment
    • Digital copy
    • Digital widescreen copy for chromebooks

This would make an excellent practice test or as test prep to prepare your students for the end of the year tests.

Do you want your students to complete multiplication and area performance tasks like they might experience on the Smarter Balanced (SBAC) performance task? This performance task focuses on practicing Multiplication, Area, and Measurement in a meaningful, exciting way.

This is a great way to practice critical thinking and deep level mathematical thinking with your students!!! The task focuses on multiplication, area, measurement, fractions and more, but with a roller coaster theme in which they are asked to make math decisions as the newest consultant for a roller coaster theme park. This is a fun way to get students thinking critically about the math skills they have learned.

    Includes:

    • Presentation for Whole Group Activity: (could be more of a gradual release model) This product could easily be projected on the board and used as a whole class activity.
    • Small Group: This product would be great for teaching a small group or letting them work on it as a group together.
    • Center: This would make a good center activity. Students could work on solving as a group or individually.
    • Assessment: This would also make a great unit assessment or practice for an extended performance task like the SBAC.
    • Digital Google Slides Version: This is perfect for letting your students practice online computer work like they will see during testing.
    • Black and White Version: This is perfect for ink savings.
    • Answer Key: This makes grading and checking as easy as can be.

Use the four operations to solve word problems involving distances, intervals of time, liquid volumes, masses of objects, and money, including problems involving simple fractions or decimals, and problems that require expressing measurements given in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit. Represent measurement quantities using diagrams such as number line diagrams that feature a measurement scale.
Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real world and mathematical problems. For example, find the width of a rectangular room given the area of the flooring and the length, by viewing the area formula as a multiplication equation with an unknown factor.
Read and write multi-digit whole numbers using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form. Compare two multi-digit numbers based on meanings of the digits in each place, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.
Fluently add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.
Multiply a whole number of up to four digits by a one-digit whole number, and multiply two two-digit numbers, using strategies based on place value and the properties of operations. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.
