What educators are saying

This resource has been very helpful for several of my students. I like that it can be used with older students and sent home. Thanks!
I loved the R Chaining book, and this one has also quickly become my favorite /s/ book for helping my kids work on trials and carryover all in the same session! Love it!

Description

S Sound Chaining helps you take your students from production in syllables to production in sentences using a motor-based approach. Ideal for upper elementary, middle school and even high school students, it’s a great workbook for SLPs teaching the S sound.

What is chaining?

Starting with a syllable and gradually adding to it to create longer utterances.

This motor-based approach to teaching /s/ builds on pre-trained sounds, gradually increasing the complexity of speech movements. Speech motor chaining takes the principles of motor learning into consideration and has resulted in successful acquisition of target speech patterns and generalization to untrained words (Preston, Leece, and Storto, 2019).

What does a chain look like?

Each chain goes from syllable → monosyllabic word → multisyllabic word → phrase → sentence.

It is recommended that you also have your students produce self-generated sentences using the phrases to help with carryover to connected speech.

An example of a chain would be:

Sue → Soup → Super → Super hero → He wants to be a super hero.
