What educators are saying

This concept was very challenging for my students, but this resource helped them so much to understand it.
My students really needed practice with this. I appreciate the variety of different kind of sentences.

    Description

Use these three engaging writing resources to help students recognize and revise sentence fragments and run-on sentences. This bundle has everything you need to keep your students engaged as they learn to identify complete sentences, sentence fragments, and run-on sentences. The activities in this bundle make analyzing sentences fun and easy! Students love the activities while teachers love the convenience of these no-prep resources that can be used year after year! These activities can be used for test prep, review, or for minilessons that zero in on the revising and editing part of the writing process.

What's included... To gain a better idea of everything included, please check out the individual PREVIEW for each resource:

I recommend starting with the POWERPOINT:

    • First, students will be reminded of the components of a complete sentence.
    • The second section focuses on sentence fragments. After students identify and revise isolated fragments, they must read complete paragraphs and revise the fragment written within the paragraph.
    • The third section highlights run-on sentences. After students identify and revise isolated run-on sentences, they must read a complete paragraph and revise the run-on written within the paragraph.
    • In the fourth and final section, students read various sentences and identify whether they are fragments, run-ons, or complete sentences.

After completing the PowerPoint, have students complete the 36 task cards, which includes both multiple-choice questions and opportunities to revise/rewrite sentence fragments and run-on sentences. (Please note that the printable task cards and the Google task cards contain the SAME sentences! Both formats are included so that each teacher can choose the format that he or she would like to use with his/her students.)

Finally, the 5 worksheets provide multiple opportunities for students to analyze longer passages for sentence fragments and run-ons. Furthermore, each worksheet contains a chart with common editing symbols, and students must use these symbols as they revise each piece of writing. (Please note that the printable worksheets and the Google activities contain the SAME sentences! Both formats are included so that each teacher can choose the format that he or she would like to use with his/her students.)

Here's what teachers like you have to say about using these writing and proofreading activities with their students:

⭐️ Maricela C. said, "As with all of the products I have purchased from this store, this product was very engaging and effective. Kids love the repetition as it gives them several opportunities to practice and gain confidence."

⭐️ Maranda R. said, "This resource is AMAZING... It's very complete. Easy to follow and does a really great job at teaching about fragments and run-on sentences. I love that there are lots of practice activities for both whole group and individual students. I've bought so many resources for fragment sentence/complete sentence writing. This is the best so far! Totally worth the money."

⭐️ Ann M. said, "I had just graded a long-term essay from my students and was greatly discouraged that every single essay had at least one run-on or frag. I searched TpT for a resource to help me quickly review this concept, and found this. It was quick and easy to cover. I used the last exercise as a test. The students definitely improved."

⭐️ Christine Y. said, "Powerpoint and worksheets were clear and helpful for students. After going through both, I really saw increased attention to their construction of sentences and their ability to identify and alter fragment and run-on sentences."

⭐️ Ashley B. said, "I love how my students now will call out, 'That's a fragment or, that's a run-on sentence!' Another standing ovation for Deb's amazing work!"
