Description
Ruby Bridges was headline news in 1960 as she naively trudged into the all-white William Frantz School. Her compelling story, that of a first grader integrating New Orleans Public Schools is indelible. Famed American author John Steinbeck wrote about it. Norman Rockwell painted it. And Ruby herself, nearly forty years later, revisited it in her stunning book, Through My Eyes. By pairing Ruby’s book with this lovely RT script, you’ll inspire learning that’ll stay with your students for years to come. The script has been carefully evaluated for cultural sensitivity and even recently enacted by The Palace Theatre with support from its local BLM chapter. There are parts for from 9 to 21 actors and it’s suitable for reader’s theater, podcast, or full stage production. Use it with students in 4th grade and up (and 3rd with some pre-teaching). It includes two comprehension activities and answer keys. There's also a FREE Google Forms quiz for it here on my TpT storefront. Visit ReadAloudPlays.com for more great African-American history RT. Note: this item has been screened for culture sensitivity, but given the content, be sure to preview before purchasing and discuss with students before reading.
