My principal came to me weeks before school started asking me if I could pick up an elective course for our huge 8th grade class. I took on the challenge as he said I could make it whatever I wanted to be, so I went with podcasts!
This lesson is heavy in the listening and speaking standards while also being loose, fun, and creative. For this lesson, we listened to "Rubik's cube VS Origami" by Smash Boom Best on Spotify. While the students listened, they filled out the organizer with what they heard while listening to the podcast. I also included a PowerPoint with pictures of the information discussed in the podcast with teacher notes at the end on slide 9. Then the students created their own podcast where they had to discuss whether they were team Rubik's Cube or origami; they filled out the script included.
