Description

All these resources go with this episode from History For Humans on "The Real Rosie the Riveter."

This is the second episode and lesson of my World War II unit that tells the amazing story of the real Rosie the Riveter and the millions of other Rosies during the war.
Teaching through the power of story, the video teaches how women were impacted by the war and how their roles in America forever changed because of their service and determination during the war. The episode also unpacks WWII on the homefront- victory gardens, recylcing and scrapping, rationing, and even how women served in uniform but the focus is on the women in defense plants and the amazing story of the real woman behind the "We Can Do It" poster that for 70 years was not given credit but finally in her old age, she was recognized! Its a story your students won't forget.

The resources that go with it include an interactive notesheet that gets students to make predictions, analyze a photograph, define terms, and complete a cause and effect chart. Then the extension lesson a stations activity where stduents dive deeper into the topic of women during World War Two. They read about "Black Rosies"- how African American women were impacted by the war, women in uniform, analzye propaganda posters, and complete a fun rationing activity where they have to buy a week's worth of grociers for a family with limited rations and money! It will make history come alive!

I do hope you enjoy it!
