    Get your students up, engaged, creating, and comprehending with 6 of our favorite activities from the first act of "Romeo and Juliet"! These activities cover all 5 scenes from act 1 of the play, with a bonus daily/weekly agenda template to keep yourself and your students organized!

    1. Romeo and Juliet: Act 1, Scene 1 Inquiry Expedition: Test students understanding of Act 1, Scene 1 of Romeo and Juliet with more than just a worksheet or a quiz! In this engaging activity, students can work in groups, or alone, to answer a series of questions and participate in an inquiry "expedition" around the room.
    2. Romeo and Juliet Family Shields: Get students engaged in Romeo and Juliet by establishing a visible family feud! Encourage students to be loyal to their families inside and outside your classroom and hang shields on opposing sides of your classroom! Best is assigned between Act I, Scene II and III. Have a competition between class periods for best shields in different categories or best overall family in each period based on different criteria!
    3. Romeo and Juliet: Family Banishment Competition: Give your students the opportunity to engage with the text and gamify the classroom with this Romeo and Juliet Family Banishment Competition! Not only does this give students the opportunity to experience the family feud between the Capulets and the Montagues for themselves, it also helps motivate students to be positive, enthusiastic, and responsible for their own learning! We begin the banishment activity after reading Act 1, Scene 3 of the text, and continue it throughout the duration of the play!
    4. Romeo and Juliet: Act 1, Scene 4- Close Read and Queen Mab Poster: After having read the text Romeo and Juliet: Act I, Scene IV, students will complete a close read analysis to better understand Romeo's foreshadowing, Mercutio's Monologue and the purpose of Queen Mab and create a Wanted Poster.
    5. Romeo and Juliet: Act 1, Scene 5 Running Dictation Activity: Review the sonnet in Act 1, Scene 5 or Romeo and Juliet by having students participate in a Running Dictation review activity. Students benefit from repeated exposure to information and language, and will enjoy collaborating to put the shared sonnet together!
    6. Romeo and Juliet: Act 1, Scene 5 Masks and Writing Activity: Engage your students in the drama of Romeo and Juliet! Have students create masks before reading Act 1, Scene 5 and let them wear their masks during reading! This assignment also has a writing component, giving more meaning to the creation of the masks. Two levels of this assignment are included, allowing for differentiation. Fully customizable!
    7. Romeo and Juliet: Act 1 Tarsia Puzzle Review Game: Get your students engaged with this small group Tarsia puzzle to review Act 1 of Romeo and Juliet! Students will receive 16 puzzle pieces in which they have to match all 3 triangle side topics to the corresponding pivotal quotes and major character descriptions as review of Act 1 of the play. Use this as review before OR in lieu of a comprehension quiz.
