Description

Included in this product is much of what is needed to help students process the essay "Rituals of Memory" by Kimberly M. Blaeser which appears in StudySync, MyPerspectives, and HMH Collections textbooks.

Provided here is a user-friendly Google Doc (fully editable!) with text-dependent questions, an analysis of the connotation and denotation in the essay. Also included are teacher slides that provide directions on what students should annotate as they read in order to best answer these questions. There are also two slides that give an example of what the annotations should look like.

The essay fits nicely into any unit on culture or personal identity and technically is non-fiction/informational but it reads like fiction. The author brings the reader along as she looks back at how her Native American and German ancestries have shaped who she is today.
