Rio 1 & 2 Movie Guide Bundle - Movie Questions with Extra Activities

This bundle includes a movie guide for both the animated films Rio 1 and Rio 2. Here is a short description of each of the movies and then some information about what is included with this bundle:

Rio 1 (2011)

This computer animated film is about a Spix’s macaw from Minnesota, Blu, and the journey that he goes through while in Rio de Janeiro Brazil. Blu and his owner Linda went to Brazil so that Blu could try and mate with the only remaining female macaw in order to save his species. While in Rio, Blu gets captured by smugglers who want to sell him in the black market. Blu manages to escape but ends up chained to the other macaw and goes on a crazy adventure to try and free himself and reunite with his owner.

Rio 2 (2014)

This computer animated film is the sequel to Rio. By now, Blu and Jewel are happily together with 3 children. While preparing breakfast one morning, they see on the radio that Dr. Túlio and Linda may have discovered more blue spix macaws deep inside the Amazon. Jewel quickly decides that they should all go on an adventure to the Amazon to locate the other macaws. Once in the Amazon, they find the flock of macaws and Jewel realizes that some of her long lost family members, including her dad, are part of the flock. Jewel is filled with joy to be in nature among other birds of her kind, however, Blu has a hard time adapting to the Amazon and the new flock. Shortly after arriving in the Amazon, the flock’s environment is threatened by illegal logging and everyone must work together to survive and save their home in the rainforest.

However, page #1 from the preview file is directly taken from Rio 2 so that you can get a small taste of what is included within these particular movie guides. Although the preview file is a mixture of movies, it follows the same type of pattern as this purchase.

Each of the movie guides includes the following:

• 20 short Answer Questions – These are short questions to be answered while students watch the movie. They are basically used to keep the students’ attention and hold them accountable for the activity. These are usually completed individually but could also be completed in small groups.
• 10 Critical Thinking Questions – These are questions for students to answer after having watched the movie. They are to be completed individually in about 2-3 sentences. They are designed to allow the students to practice their critical thinking skills based on various parts of the movie.
• 5 Reflection Questions & 5 Superlative Questions – These reflection & superlative questions are to be answered individually after having watched the movie. They can be answered in about 2-3 sentences but are designed to have students relate various parts or aspects from the movie to their own lives.
• Character Analysis – This activity is to have students analyze various characters in the movie to recount what they liked about them, what their biggest strength was, weakness, etc.
• Art Activity - This activity is to have students try and express some aspect of the movie through the use of art. Students are asked to draw or create something using their imagination and/or the information they obtained by watching the movie.
• Group Activity – This activity is to be completed in a small group and is designed to have students work together as a team in order to complete the instructions or objectives for the activity. Once finished, the groups can share their work with the rest of the class if the teacher wants them to.

All the questions are available in a PDF format for quick and easy printing as well as in a Word format in case you would like to modify some of the questions to the specific needs of your class. A Teacher Answer Key is available for the short answer questions and I have also included a document with instructions and recommendations for using this movie guide in your classes.
