Description

Engage your high-level students after they read "Rikki-tikki-tavi" by hosting a Socratic seminar! This structured, whole-class discussion activity is an excellent alternative to a traditional worksheet or test for checking comprehension and assessing students' analysis of the text.

The seminar includes fourteen open-ended questions that invite students to analyze character, plot, theme, conflict, stereotyping, motivation, and personification in this classic animal story. There are also two follow-up writing prompts, allowing students to go even deeper!

(If you love this resource, you won't want to miss the rest of my Rikki-tikki-tavi Short Story Bundle!)

These seminar questions are written with a purposeful beginning, middle, and end, and they are intended to be asked and discussed all in one sitting. However, if you don't have a whole period, you can cherry-pick a few of the most interesting questions and still get a rich discussion out of it. (Even when I do have a whole bell, I often have to cut seminars off at the end because the students get so into the discussion!) If possible, I recommend using at least one question from the beginning, middle, and end sections to give your seminar a logical structure.

Good luck - I hope your students enjoy this seminar as much as mine have!
