Rhyming Words & Beginning Sounds Literacy Centers: Do You Wanna Build a Sandwich?
Are your students struggling with rhyming words and beginning sounds? This activity is perfect reinforcement for those who need reteaching and reinforcement in rhyming skills and initial sound skills.
For the Beginning Sound Sandwiches- Each sandwich has 2 slices of bread (one has an uppercase letter, the other a lowercase letter) and 6 pieces (lettuce, tomato, mayo, cheese, pickle, bologna) that has the beginning sound picture, for a total of 8 pieces to build a complete sandwich. The only letters that have fewer than 6 pieces to build the sandwich are the letters:
Q-3 pieces
U- 5 pieces
V- 5 pieces
X- 2 pieces
Y- 4 pieces
Z- 3 pieces
Rhyming Words PB&J Sandwiches-
There are 40 rhyming words for students to match. Students have to match the rhyming word on the peanut butter slice to the jelly slice!
-Print, laminate, and cut out sandwich cards.
-Students will make a sandwich by matching rhyming words and beginning sounds.
-This activity can be used for small-group, RTI, or centers.
*For centers: Use in a pocket chart, word works, or sensory bin.*
