    Description

Are you ready for students to let their creativity, humor, and knowledge SHINE? This rhetorical appeals and analysis BUNDLE includes everything for a rigorous, but engaging glimpse into the world of ethos, pathos, logos, and persuasion. Students will use their knowledge of rhetorical appeals and analysis to create their very own radio or TV advertisements! This project-based approach to learning will keep them engaged, AND help them retain key rhetorical strategies. Students will LOVE the opportunity to get creative and use technology to create their ads!

    What's Included:

    • A Google Slide™ presentation featuring definitions of ethos, pathos and logos along with practice slides for identifying all three
    • A 15 question Google Form™ self-grading quiz to test student knowledge
    • Teacher directions and execution tips for the advertisement project
    • An Advertisement Organizer for students to plan their advertisement.
    • A completed sample organizer to use when modeling for students
    • A script template for their radio or TV advertisement
    • A completed sample script to use when modeling for students
    • Rubric for easy grading
    • A post-project activity: Advertisement viewing party! This "party" is always the BEST part. The kids have a blast watching each other's advertisements, and we talk about which rhetorical appeals were present at the end of each ad!

    Suggestions for executing this BUNDLE:

    Day 1:

Take students through the rhetorical appeals Google Slide™ presentation so that they get an understanding of ethos, pathos, and logos.

When students are ready, assign them the 15 question Google Form™ quiz on rhetorical appeals.

    Day 2:

Now that students have an understanding of rhetorical appeals, you can start by introducing the assignment and brainstorming products or services that students could use to advertise.

Once students have some fun ideas, you can introduce the advertisement organizer. Use the sample advertisement organizer (provided) as a model for students so they can see what the expectation is for completing the task.

    Day 3:

Introduce the advertisement script and rubric (provided). Students should write out their advertisement in script form, and highlight the components of the advertisement that align with rhetorical appeals and persuasion. Show students the sample script as a model for what’s expected (provided).

    Days 4-5:

Give them additional time to work, or allow for some peer editing of their scripts. Once completed students can begin recording their advertisements. I usually like to give students 2-3 days to record and edit the video if using class time, and a week to record/edit if students are completing this outside of class time.

    Day 6:

Once all commercials are completed you can have a viewing party! As students watch they will use the viewing party reflection sheet (provided) to guess whether ethos, pathos and/or logos were used, giving them another opportunity to practice identifying these rhetorical appeals in their daily lives.
