What educators are saying

This was a super helpful resource. I used it right before we started writing longer rhetorical analysis over Just Mercy!

Description

Do your students struggle with identifying a speaker's argument? Have you gone over ethos, pathos, and logos (and other rhetorical devices) but need some practice writing prompts to help students apply their knowledge? Do you need to help prep your students for the AP Language Test? This is the resource for you!

This resource includes:

  • Four speeches which require students to annotate for rhetorical devices
  • Links for students to view/listen to each speech
  • A link to a MEGA list of rhetorical devices
  • A SOAPSTone (Speaker, Occasion, Audience, Purpose, Subject, and Tone) graphic organizer for each speech to help students understand the context and purpose of the speech
  • Practice writing prompts for each speech that mimic the AP Language Test - Question 2
  • A guiding presentation with step-by-step instructions on how to write a rhetorical analysis essay
  • A reference handout for students with step-by-step instructions for writing a rhetorical analysis essay
  • A graphic organizer that helps students write an outline for their essay

The best part? This resource was created with Google Docs/Slides, so it's entirely customizable! It's easy to post to Google Classroom and make a copy for each student so they can edit the document! No copies necessary!

Thank you for supporting this Oklahoma teacher mom! All proceeds from my Teachers Pay Teachers profits go to paying for my fivei-year-old son's martial arts lessons, my baby girl's recent birth medical expenses, and paying down debt from years of buying my own school/classroom supplies.
