Description

Teach your students how to write a resume using this career readiness Google Slides presentation! This lesson...

  • Explains what a resume is, what a resume is used for, how to create a resume, and tips for writing a great resume.
  • Reviews the difference between a chronological and functional resume, how to use action verbs and show impact when describing experiences, and hard skills vs. soft skills.
  • Includes link to a Google Doc resume template and a resume rubric/scoring guide on the slides.

⭐️ WHAT'S INCLUDED (a complete lesson that uses the 5E Learning Cycle!):

  • Engage: Question to hook students.
  • Explore: Question to activate prior knowledge.
  • Explain: A clear explanation of what a resume is and how to write one.
  • Elaborate/Extend: Higher-level discussion questions at the end to stimulate critical thinking on resume writing, PLUS an extension activity asking students to find a job advertisement for a position they would consider applying for now or in the near future, and then to use the advice in this presentation to write a resume that they could use to apply for this job. (I highly recommend getting my lesson How to Write a Cover Letter and having your students make both a cover letter and resume). Note: this is the only editable part of the presentation so that you can change the extension activity as you see fit or add your own creative idea.
  • Evaluate: Reflection questions at the end of the presentation. I've also included a rubric/scoring guide with editable points/scoring for assessing resumes.

  • Extra: Ideas for engaging students!

⭐️ This presentation can be used by teachers or counselors with distance learning, face-to-face instruction, OR a hybrid approach in any secondary class. You can present the lesson to the whole class or have students review it themselves in small groups! This is the perfect lesson for a high school AVID, advisory, or language arts class, or really any college and career readiness class!

⭐️ This product is a COMPLETE LESSON in one place (similar to a Hyperdoc, which takes students through the learning cycle in one doc or slide deck using hyperlinks and other media). Perfect for using as a differentiated, self-paced, student-centered lesson and/or whole class presentation!

⭐️ Save money and get my How to Write a Cover Letter and Resume BUNDLE!

⭐️ The time it takes for the entire lesson will vary depending on how much time you allow for group discussions, follow-up class sharing, and extension activities. You could spend as little as 60 minutes on this lesson if it's just for review, or take two to three whole classes or more if you include the suggested extension activities and peer feedback sessions. For ESL classes, you may need more time.

Note: You can skip or delete any of the slides you don't want to use and add your own notes to any of the slides.
