Description
Mathematics Matters To Me - Project Based Learning, Differentiated, Google Classroom, and Distance Learning
This math project is geared towards turning your lessons into REAL WORLD examples and problems. Engagement for this project will be astounding because your students will have a chance to use what they've learned in your class and apply it to something they love ... food! This project-based learning activity is an AMAZING task for early finishers or enrichment. It would also be perfect for bulletin board assignments for the entire year! No more waiting fumbling around for a bulletin board every month. The students will ask and beg to complete this project and you will love every minute of this print and go activity.
Bulletin Board Ready
The project is literally ideal for having a bulletin board that has a specific theme and can be switched around based on your curriculum. The activities are independent of one another, so there can be changes made to how you execute the project with your students. It's quick, fast, and easy to distribute. I would recommend printing them one-sided or using the Digital Version on google classroom for Distance Learning or Remote Learning.
Differentiated
Not only is this project a time-saver, but it also does a lot of the hard work for you when it comes to SDI or your students with IEPs. It's a great task for advanced 5th graders, eager 6th graders, and an AWESOME review for upper grades. There DOK 3 questions for the majority of the activities and tasks. The DOK 3 questions add the writing aspect to the project to create rigor for your students and will impress any principal or administrator.
Project Includes:
- Creating their own menu on Google Slides.
- Restaurant Inventory: Identifying ratios and creating equivalent ratios for different aspects of the restaurant.
- Better Buy: Find the unit price of two wholesale retailers and compare the prices to see who has better deals overall.
- Money, Money, Money!/Show Me The Money: Use percents to find an appropriate budget for the different expenses of owning a restaurant.
- Restaurant Sketch: Using a scale factor to find the actual dimensions of the different components in the restaurant layout.
- Recipe Remix!: Use operations with fractions to find the right measurements for a recipe.
- Divvy It Up!: Find the suggested price of a menu item by using operations with decimals and division of whole numbers.
- Marketing 101: Create inequalities based on certain ad campaign requirements and find the ad offer that meets those requirements.
- Count It Up: Find equivalent expressions by using properties of operations and substitution. Then, evaluate the expressions by using order of operations to find the amount of money made for the night.
- Oops...: Pay for an unexpected repair by finding the price of different unknown aspects of your plumber invoice by writing and solving one-step equations.
- Line It Up: Show the relationship between number of days and money made on a graph and create an equation to describe this relationship.
- Shape Shifting: Find out how many cans of paint will be needed to cover the outside of the restaurant by finding the area of the different shapes that make up the building.
- Survey Says...: Use Zelp reviews and ratings from customers to create a box plot to show how customers feel about the restaurant.
