Description

An engaging and meaningful project-based learning (PBL) approach to learning about different types of renewable energy! This Digital Google Slides formatted project takes basic understanding up a notch, requiring students to apply their knowledge of renewable energy sources to create a city that runs solely on one source of renewable energy such as wind energy, solar power, water energy, and geothermal energy. It requires higher-level critical thinking and problem solving to design the map of this imaginary city and to create a brochure to advertise and inform people about its qualities. This project can be completed alone, in partners, or small groups.

This resource includes

  • A student work sample image
  • Energy observation activity
  • Research note-taking page
  • Planning page
  • A place where students can create a digital map
  • A double-sided brochure template.

This project can be completed digitally. The Google Slides are formatted to be 11 X 8.5 so they can easily be printed. The brochure template needs to be completed on the computer, but the research and planning pages, and the map, can be printed out and done on paper.

This is a great whole-class activity, gifted and talented education program enrichment activity, or enrichment activity for the gifted learners in the regular classroom.

Student Outcomes
