What educators are saying

I didn't get to use this activity as directed because of time but I loved the presentation and the content. My kids liked what we did with it.
This looks like a really fun activity to both engage and teach the students. I look forward to using it with them soon. As for the download and product itself - it all looks great - easy to understand and follow. Thanks!

Description

In this Knives-Out-Style renaissance-detective-lesson students solve a crime while learning about the accomplishments of key renaissance figures! This renaissance mystery party activity is engaging, fun, and academic.

Setting the stage: Billionaire Ronald Jenkins has a lavash Hollywood A-list party with a renaissance dress-up theme. The party is complete with a Da Vinci painting borrowed from the Vatican. In a strike of lightning, the lights dimmed, and the painting went missing! The student's mission is to learn about the key figures present at the party to uncover clues about the thief!

Here’s what’s included:

  • Teacher instructions
  • 12 Gallery Walk visuals covering key renaissance people including Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Queen Isabella, Cosimo De Medici, Andreas Vesilius, Petrarch, Shakespeare, Queen Elizabeth, Dante, Brunelleschi, Raphael, and Gutenburg
  • A Graphic Organizer for students to complete during the Gallery Walk
  • A Google Form that has students recall what they learned, read primary sources from the renaissance, and match artwork to the artist.
  • A ransom note that reveals the thief through some deductive sleuthing!

This easy-to-run paired lesson had my students hooked and it's easy to grade.

Our World History Curriculum, including Ancient History lessons and Medieval History lessons, are key-concept based, focussing on the “big six” key concepts for social science, often referred to as GRAPES.  By learning World History with key concepts as a filter, students will become familiar with the crucial attributes that have allowed ancient and medieval civilizations to prosper. Also, students will build a framework, scaffolding future learning with the key concepts that will be repeated throughout their academic careers.

Each unit comes with notes, graphic organizers, and review worksheets that have the GRAPES key concepts in mind:

  • G= Geography
  • R= Religion
  • A= Achievements
  • P= Politics/Government/Leadership
  • E= Economy
  • S= Social Classes
