What educators are saying

What a wonderful way to help my students understand that heroes come in all different shapes, sizes, genders, etc. They never thought of themselves as heroes until now!
I loved using this in my third grade classroom. My kids loved it AND it pulls my class together perfectly.

Description

Teaching young children about the events of September 11th always seems difficult to me. I am always torn somewhere between wanting to protect their innocence and wanting to teach them about the history of our country, all of the good and the bad. I created this resource to inform students about the events of September 11th, but more importantly I wanted to focus on the positive; the heroes. I decided to focus on 6 heroes and their stories.

This file has been updated to support distance learning!

This resource includes the following:

A 3-page non-fiction reading passage about the events of 9/11 and 6 of the heroes from that day.

A PowerPoint presentation that presents the same information as the reading passage to be used in conjunction or in place of the passage. (Available in Google Slides)

4 student activities about heroes. (Available in Google Slides)
